Our Approach to Audio Engineering and Music Production
Computers, consoles, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, cables and soundboards: they are the tools of music production and audio engineering. But at IAR, it’s the people that help you understand how to turn technology and equipment into music.
IAR is an audio school now in its fourth decade. We’ve seen all kinds of fads, gadgets and recording technologies come and go. What remains the same is our time-tested vision: a complete education in audio engineering and music production, combining a broad background with hands-on experience. We prepare students for the music business with teachers that are in the business.
Our Faculty Knows the Skills Students Need
Our audio engineering and music production curriculum is crafted by faculty members who are deeply involved in music and audio. They know what skills students need to create music products and qualify for jobs. And when employers’ needs evolve, and production techniques change, our teachers bring those changes into the classroom.
We believe the key to a valuable education in music production is a command of the fundamental concepts of sound. We emphasize these principles with both digital and analog classroom and studio experience. As technology, studio design and equipment operations change, our comprehensive approach emphasizing underlying concepts provides students with rock-solid basics to fall back on anytime, anywhere.

IAR is a community in which students meet other professionals, make new friends, and build lasting business relationships. We encourage students to learn from each other in our lounges and classrooms. Our teachers frequently invite students to assist in the real-world work they are doing.
